Things You'll Need
Instructions
Knead clay to soften it and make it more pliable. Kneading is a squeezing and pushing motion done with your hands.
Roll the clay into a 1-inch ball.
Using a knife, cut the ball into 5 equal-sized pieces.
Form each piece of clay into a triangular petal shape with rounded edges.
Roll one petal into a tight twirl to form the narrow center for the rosebud.
Take another petal form and position it with a rounded point facing up. Press the base of the triangular shape into the bottom of the bud.
Press the edge of each petal with your finger to make them get thinner at the outside edge. Do this after each is affixed to the bud center. Slightly curl the top edge out on each petal.
Place the other petals onto the bud shape. Pinch and curl each top to simulate a real bud unwinding. Rosebuds unfold in a spiral shape, so keep this in mind as you place your flower pieces together.
Make a calyx for the bottom of the bud. This is the portion that previously enclosed the bud. It is a star shape with 6 points. Press a flat circle of clay and cut the points along the perimeter. Pinch each point to flatten it and make it appear more delicate.
Attach this form to the bottom of the bud and press all the layers together to connect them.
