How to Replace a Pentax Rewind Shaft

Replacing a Pentax rewind shaft is necessary to keep the camera mechanism operating properly. The rewind shaft can wear out over time or get bound up by debris, requiring that it be removed in order to clean the shaft or replace the part completely. You can remove the rewind shaft, which is attached on the top of the camera with a hand crank and collar, in just a few minutes.

Open the battery cover on the Pentax camera and remove the batteries. Unfasten the two screws on the top of the camera case with a small Phillips head screwdriver and take the top off the camera.
