How to Upholster a Go Kart Seat

Plain Go Kart seats without upholstering can be very uncomfortable, especially if you suffer joint pains or back problems. You cann upholstering to most Go Kart seats with very little effort or sewing know-how. The most important consideration is to buy a padding that offers the most support in as little depth as possible, so the Go Kart can still accommodate most riders.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace the outline of the Go Kart seat onto a large sheet of paper. Make sure to include the bottom, back and headrest.

    • 2

Place the tracing over the foam padding, and press the foam down with your fingertips, carefully cutting through both the tracing and the foam.

    • 3

Set the foam aside, and use the cut-out pattern of the seat to help measure a length of vinyl fabric. Your vinyl fabric should be at least 2 inches wider than the widest part of the outline and twice as long as the outline, with an additional 4 inches added to accommodate the depth of the foam.

    • 4

Fold the vinyl in half so that it is roughly half the length, right side facing in, and set the tracing of the seat atop it.

    • 5

Cut the vinyl so that there is an additional clearance around the edge of the tracing, equal to two-thirds the depth of the foam selected.

    • 6

Sewing the upper half of the cut vinyl sides together until only the larger, lower end remains.

    • 7

Turn the vinyl inside out, and stuff the foam inside of the sewn vinyl.

    • 8

Sew the remaining vinyl together to close it, and place the upholstered cushion into the seat.
