How to Make a Vintage Coat Rack

Bring a touch of the past to your home's entrance with a vintage wood coat rack. A vintage wood coat rack is made out of aged wood and vintage-style coat hooks. Vintage-style coat hooks can be purchased at most hardware stores. If you prefer actual vintage coat hooks, you may be able to find them at an antique store. Aged wood can be recycled from older projects that are no longer of use. Old hardwood flooring is an example of this.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your hardwood flat and horizontal. Position the eight hooks on the board so they are spaced 8 inches apart across the length of the board. Center them evenly between the 50-inch edges of the board using your tape measure. Mark a spot inside each screw hole with your pencil.

    • 2

Drill a 1/16-inch hole through the board where each of the markings are. These holes are your pilot holes for the screws that came with your coat hooks. Screw the coat hooks to the board using your screw gun.

Locate studs in the wall where you wish to hang your vintage coat rack. Position your coat rack against the wall so the 50-inch edges are horizontal. Place your level on top of the rack to ensure the rack is horizontal. Screw through the rack using your 5-inch screws, one screw for each stud.
