How to Commit on a Skateboard

Committing on a skateboard can be the most difficult part of pulling off a new trick, grind or jump. No matter how long you have been riding a skateboard, working up the courage to gain the speed and enough air to execute a big trick is always a nerve-racking experience. In order to commit on a skateboard, you will have to trust in yourself and the skateboard under your feet, using your adrenaline to your advantage.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan the trick out to the last detail. Know how fast you need to be going, when you are going to pop the board, where your feet need to be and where your center of balance should be at every step.

    • 2

Focus. Get your head completely in the game. Forget about everything and devote your attention to the task at hand. Envision yourself doing the trick. See your body go through all the steps of the trick successfully.

    • 3

Work your way up to the tricks that are just beyond your expertise. This involves constant practice. Know your strengths and reinforce them, but know your weaknesses even better and work to improve on them. Practice provides the foundation of committing on a skateboard.

    • 4

Go for it. No matter how big or dangerous the trick may be, you ultimately have to give it your all. Don̵7;t be afraid to fall; if you commit on a skateboard, you are going to wipe out a lot. The true test is to pick yourself up and try again. Don̵7;t hesitate for a moment. When you feel the adrenaline rushing through you in anticipation of trying a big trick, don̵7;t let it scare you. Embrace the feel, and let the adrenaline work in your favor to fuel you through the trick.
