How to Polish Sea Beans

Sea beans, or drift seeds, are typically found washed up on ocean shores; they are the product of fruit and seeds that have drifted into the ocean and hardened before washing ashore. Sanding and polishing sea beans brings out interesting colors, allowing you to make them into jewelry or collect for their beauty. Select sea beans to polish that do not have dents, cracks or deep pits. These irregularities will mar the appearance of your finished beans.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the sandpaper sheets into small sections, roughly nine rectangles per large sheet.

    • 2

Sand away barnacles and other residue from the sea bean using your coarsest grit sandpaper in a circular motion. Sand using circular motions until you cannot get it any smoother with the coarse sandpaper.

    • 3

Sand the sea bean with a slightly finer piece of sandpaper using a circular motion until it cannot get any smoother with the fine sandpaper.

    • 4

Buff the sea bean with the back of the finest sandpaper and apply a coat of furniture wax with a soft cloth. You do not have to add the polish, but it enhances the shine of the sea bean.
