Cameras and Flash Cards
You need at least two cameras for your photo studio. Cameras can be sensitive, and if the one you are using stops working, you need another immediately to continue to shoot. Having two cameras also allows you to set up two angles for portrait work. The website Virtual Studio recommends that you also have a variety of flash cards, a memory device for storing images. Images can be transferred easily from a flash card to a computer or printed using a digital printer. If you use just one large-capacity flash card, you risk losing all your work if the card fails.
Laptop and Lenses
To work efficiently, you should be able to view your images on a laptop shortly after shooting. If you can review the photos at the end of a session or during breaks, you can reshoot if necessary rather than having to arrange another shoot. You should also have a variety of lenses, including telephoto lenses for photographing subjects in motion.
Backgrounds
If money is a factor, choose floor-mounted backgrounds rather than ceiling-mounted ones. It can look more professional to move everything around on ceiling rails rather than shuffling boards around by hand, but the results are the same.
Lighting
Lighting can make or break your business. You should be able to produce low lighting effects and have warm, hot and cold lights. The type of flash you'll need will depend on the camera you're using. Lighting is part of your artistic process as a photographer, so choose your lights carefully and make sure your studio has access to natural light.
