How to Install a Model Railroad on a Bedroom Wall

Model railroads have been a popular hobby for generations. These fun machines come in a variety of sizes, shapes and cost. One way to introduce your child to the wonder of model trains is to place a set in their room. A common practice is to build a track along the wall of the room and have the train run around the room. Constructing this setup requires time and patience, but your child will enjoy the result.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the wall. Cut a piece of 1-inch by 4-inch lumber equal to the length of the wall. Place "L" shaped shelving brackets on the bottom of the lumber. Use a stud finder to locate where the studs are inside the wall.

    • 2

Draw a level line across the length of the wall using a level. Secure the "L" brackets to the wall using 2 inch to 2 1/2 inch mounting screws and a screwdriver. These brackets need to be level across the wall so that the lumber will be level.

    • 3

Set the lumber on top of the "L" brackets and begin securing the lumber to the brackets. Use 1/4 inch to 1/2-inch screws to prevent the screws from going completely through the lumber.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for each wall until you have a level working area around the room. Secure each track to the lumber using one small flat-head screw. This will help hold the track in place.
