How to Make Longboard Surf Racks

Store your long boards on your wall with a homemade rack. Long board surf racks are similar to surfboard racks but they are smaller and not nearly as wide as surfboards. Build your own long board rack using plywood, oak dowels and rubber sleeves. Rubber sleeves will protect the finish of your boards and they will also keep them from sliding off the rack. A simple long board rack requires little time and no carpentry experience to build.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Plywood, 3/4-by-8-by-36 inches
  • Drill
  • Drill bit, 3/4-inch
  • 4 wood dowels, 3/4-by-12 inches

  • 4 wood screws, 3-inch
  • 4 rubber sleeves, 3/4-inch-diameter-by-11 ¼ inches

Instructions

    • 1

Measure 2 inches away from each 8-inch edge of the plywood and drill two 3/4-inch holes 1/2-inch deep that are spaced 5 inches apart.

    • 2

Insert a dowel into each hole and screw through the opposite side of the plywood and into the dowels. Use one 3-inch screw for each dowel.

    • 3

Place a rubber sleeve on each dowel to keep your long boards from getting scratched.

    • 4

Locate studs in the wall with your stud finder and position your long board surf rack against the wall with your level. Position the rack so its 36-inch edge is horizontal. Screw through the rack with four 4-inch screws, using two screws for each stud.

    • 5

Set your long boards on the dowels with their wheels facing the floor.
