Instructions
Press the release clip on the battery compartment door, located on the bottom of the control housing unit. Lift and remove the battery compartment door.
Connect one 9-volt battery to the connector located inside the battery housing unit. Align the connector over the battery posts with the small connector over the circular post, and the hexagon-shaped connector over the corresponding hexagon post. Snap the two pieces together. Repeat this for the other 9-volt battery.
Insert one battery into the battery compartment, post-side down. Then insert the other battery post-side up. Replace the battery door. Press down on the side with the release clip until the door snaps into place.
Turn the left control knob clockwise to the "On" position. The detector will be at the lowest sensitivity when turned on and will remain silent until you move the search coil over a metal object.
Turn the left knob clockwise to the "Maximum" position to increase the sensitivity for any small and buried objects. If you happen to experience a "chattering" noise, slowly turn the knob counterclockwise to reduce the sensitivity.
Flip the "Discriminate" toggle switch to the desired position. Choose between "All Metal," "Full Discriminate" or "Tone Discriminate," depending on what type of objects you are looking for. "All Metal" will detect all types of metal that pass underneath the search coil, whereas "Full Discriminate" and "Tone Discriminate" will automatically ignore most trash, as well as iron and steel objects.
Turn the "Discriminate" control dial clockwise to adjust the range of discriminate control. This increases the range of discrimination and allows you to automatically reject all nonessential pieces, such as pull tabs, bottle caps and nails.
Stand with the metal detector in your hand with your arm extended in front of you. Hold the device so that the search coil is parallel to the ground, and at least 1/2 inch off the ground.
Swing the search coil slowly but steadily in front of you. Use a side-to-side motion, overlapping sweeps while slowly walking forward. Maintain the same distance from the ground with each sweep.
Continue this motion until you hear a steady, repeatable tone. Visually mark the spot, then continue sweeping the coil over the target area. Shorten your swings in order to zero in on the item. The loudest tones indicate the most desirable items.
Stop the search coil directly over the target spot. Slowly move the coil forward and back, maintaining the same distance and keeping the end parallel to the ground. Repeat this motion until you locate the loudest tone. Gently lay the detector down to uncover the item.
