How to Make a Hanging Lamp From a Flower Pot for Garden

Brighten up your garden with a hanging lamp made from a flower pot. All you need is to wire the pot with a lighting fixture, which is similar to rewiring an existing lamp with a new power cord. A hanging lamp can add ambiance while at the same time illuminating your garden. You can even place the lamp over a specific flower or plant. Clay, metal and plastic flower pots are available at garden centers or home improvement stores.

Things You'll Need

  • White spray paint
  • Power drill
  • Lamp wiring kit
  • Wire stripper

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a coat of white spray paint to the inside of the flower pot. Allow four hours for the paint to dry and then apply a second coat.

    • 2

Turn the flower pot upside down. Drill a hole in the center of the flower pot using the power drill. This will be for the lamp's power cord. Slide the ring connector over the end of the power cord.

    • 3

Insert the end of the power cord from the lamp kit into the hole you drilled into the flower pot. Slide the included washer over the end of the cord.

    • 4

Pull off the outer cover of the fixture. Insert the end of the power cord into the hole that is at the base of the light fixture.

    • 5

Remove 1/2 inch of the insulation from each wire of the power cord using a wire stripper. Secure each wire to a screw terminal on the fixture with the screwdriver.

    • 6

Slide the cover back on the fixture to cover the wiring. Insert the bottom of the fixture into the bottom of the flower pot. Tighten the ring connector to secure the fixture to the flower pot.

    • 7

Screw a bulb into the fixture. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet to test your new light. Hang the lamp by securing the power cord to a wood post with staples using a staple gun.
