Things You'll Need
Instructions
Disassemble the trombone and clean it completely. Check for areas of dents or dings. Oil the fixed dent rod of the appropriate size and clamp the vise to the table. The smaller rods with the smaller balls are used for tiny dents while the larger rods with larger balls are used for bigger dents. Slide the dented tube or bell of the trombone over the dent rod and push the dent rod against the instrument dents. Be sure to push gently so you do not stretch out the metal. Stretching the metal too much will weaken the instrument.
Place the tapered dent rolling tool into the bell of a heavily dented trombone. Use gentle pressure to roll the bell arond the tool to even out the dents. You may need to repeat this process more than once depending on the number of dents. Be careful not to push too hard and stretch the metal.
Use a flexible dent rod to remove dents in long pieces of trombone tubing. Oil the dent ball of the flexible rod and push it gently through the whole tube, pushing against the dented areas to remove them. Repeat this step until all the dents are smoothed out.
Clean all parts of the trombone that have been repaired with a soft cloth to remove any excess oil left from the rods. Reasemble the instrument.
