Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn on your existing static light chain to check all the light bulbs are working. Replace any blown light bulbs. When you complete building the moving chain lights, you'll know all the bulbs work.
Turn off the existing static light chain. Using a knife, cut the wire from the light chain about 12 inches from the power supply source, such as the transformer or battery.
Use wire strippers and remove 1 inch of outer protective coating off the ends of the wires you cut. Remove the 1/4-inch of colored plastic off the end of the two internal wires, using wire strippers. Twist the internal copper metal strands of wire, using your fingers so the strands stay together.
Remove the cover from the moving chain light unit. Unscrew the screws using a screwdriver and lift off the cover.
Loosen the four terminal screws using a screwdriver, but don̵7;t remove them. There are two terminal screws on one end, and two on the other end.
Look at the terminal plates at each end of the chain light unit to ascertain which terminals are ̶0;In̶1; and which are ̶0;Out.̶1; The plates are clearly labeled, although the terminology may be slightly different, but easily understood. Identify the ̶0;+̶1; and ̶0;-̶0; terminals; the signs are labeled on the terminal plates.
Insert the end of red wire from the power source under the ̶0;+̶1; terminal screw on the ̶0;In,̶1; or similar-worded, plate. Tighten the terminal screw. Insert the black wire under the ̶0;-̶0; terminal screw on the ̶0;In̶1; plate. Tighten the screw.
Insert the red wire on the end of the light chain under the ̶0;+̶1; terminal screw on the ̶0;Out̶1; plate, and the black wire from the light chain under the ̶0;-̶0; terminal screw on the same plate. Tighten both screws.
Replace the moving chain light unit cover. Replace the screws into the holes on the cover and tighten.
Turn on your moving chain lights. Use the dial or buttons on top of the moving chain light unit to change the way the chain lights move.
