How to Do the Trick When You Put a Deck of Cards in a Cup Then Make One Float Out

Poke a small hole in the top of the card using your knife. Make it small enough to be invisible to the naked eye. Practice this until you can make a hole wide enough for your thread but small enough not to be seen.

Thread a string through the hole and tie it to the card. Pull the thread to a button on your shirt and cut it off so that it has about one foot of slack.

Place your trick card on the bottom of the deck with the string facing up. Hold your deck of cards during your performance as if there was no wire.

Pull cards off the top of the deck quickly to make it look as if you are shuffling. Move your hands around as you go to complete the illusion. Show them the bottom card when they say "Stop" to force them to pick the card.

Put the rest of your cards on top of the picked card and place them in your cup. Put the cup directly underneath you on the table and begin talking about the trick to the audience. Make sure the side with the string is facing up.

Wave your hands above the cup quickly while speaking 'magic words.' Work the string between the thumb and pointer finger. Lightly close the finger to hold the string.

Begin moving your hands upward to pull the card out of the cup and into the air. Move your hands as if you are levitating the card. Tell jokes and move rapidly while you do this to avoid the audience seeing what you are doing.

Grab the card in your hand with a flourish after you are finished. Grab the string between your finger nails on one of your hands and pick it tightly to remove the string. Show the card to others to show there was no strings attached.
