How to Make a Polyester Ribbon Curl

Permanently curled ribbons, also known as korker ribbons, can be used as hair bows, gift wrap or even holiday decorations. Instead of purchasing korker ribbons, make your own right from your house. The best ribbons to use are polyester ribbons (like grosgrain), because they hold the curl permanently, rarely fray and are more resistant to heat -- which is important since the ribbons need to be baked to hold their shape. So, select your favorite ribbon color, width and design and make your own korker ribbons from your kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat your oven to 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Pin one end of your polyester ribbon to the top of one 3/16-inch wooden dowel with a wooden clothespin.

    • 2

Twist the ribbon around the wooden dowel. Pin the other end of the ribbon to the bottom of the dowel, then snip off the excess ribbon with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Continue to repeat Step 2 until you have as many ribbon-wrapped dowels as you need.

    • 4

Place your ribbon-wrapped dowels on a cookie sheet, and slide the cookie sheet into heated oven.

    • 5

Bake your ribbons for 20 minutes. Allow the ribbons to cool before sliding the dowels from the center of the ribbons.
