How to Make a Sled Luge

Sledding is a popular and fun winter activity. But some people want more of a thrill than a simple sled ride down a hill. With the right materials and a proper plan, you can turn a snow covered hill into a speedy luge track.
While it requires planning and the right design, building a sled luge can turn your average snow day into a blast.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a snowy hill or other suitable area. Sled down the hill as a test run. Make a note of any bumps, grooves or curves that can be sculpted into a luge track.

    • 2

Use a snowblower to blow some of the snow on your prospective track into a pile by your desired starting area.

    • 3

Construct a starting ramp with the snow by packing it into the form of a ramp with a shovel and your hands.

    • 4

Sculpt curves along your track with the excess snow. Build the snow walls high and pack the snow tightly.

    • 5

Take a test run down the luge track. Make any adjustments to the curves, walls or starting ramp as needed.
