How to Get Rid of Pen Marks on a Baseball

Baseballs are made from a rubber core and leather exterior. Baseballs can get extremely dirty from play and from ink marks from autographs. Remove ink marks from a baseball if you plan on getting a new autograph. Newer ink marks erase more easily, especially if made by ball point pens. If your ink marks come from permanent marker, a harsher method than soap and water is necessary to get all the ink off your baseball.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the baseball with a damp cloth and warm water to remove any dirt. Dry the baseball with a clean towel.

    • 2

Spray ink marks with hairspray. Wipe off with a clean cloth. If you still have faded marks, use a scrubbing motion to clean further with a damp cloth and warm water.

    • 3

Soak a cotton ball in 70 percent isopropyl alcohol.

    • 4

Start at the beginning of the ink stain and work in small circles, buffing out the ink. Use a new cotton ball once ink soaks into the cotton ball.

    • 5

Continue to work across the entire pen mark, rubbing the marks gently with the cotton ball. Once finished, set the baseball aside to dry.
