How to Loosen Stiff Trucks

Loosen skateboard trucks that are too stiff to maneuver effectively to customize your board to your particular weight and riding style. Skateboard trucks come equipped with kingpins, which can be tightened or loosened with a skateboard key. Loosening the trucks' kingpins allows riders to make sharper turns, while also maintaining balance on the board without losing control.   Find the appropriate end of the skate tool to match your skateboard trucks' kingpins. Skate tools usually come equipped with multiple-sized ends to match the various bolts on your skateboard. Choose the end that fits correctly over the kingpins' bolts by using trial and error.

  Turn the skate tool to the left to loosen the truck. Turn the tool at a complete rotation twice to loosen them just enough to make a noticeable difference. Repeat the process for the second skateboard truck as well.

  Stand on the skateboard and test out the flexibility of the board, now that the trucks have been loosened. Loosen the trucks' kingpins with the skate tool again if you find that the adjustments have not removed the stiffness of your ride as desired.
