How to Fix a Buzzing Guitar Jack

Electric guitars can provide hours of fun and enjoyment. However, a buzzing guitar jack either on the guitar or at the is anything but music to the ears. There are two major causes of loud buzzing. One is that the cord itself has gone bad. The other, more common cause is that over time the jack connections can become loose. When this happens it can result in a horrific buzzing sound from the amp. Correcting this problem only takes a few minutes.

  • Small adjustable wrench
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Replacement guitar cord

      Unplug the amplifier from the wall and disconnect the guitar cord from both the guitar and the amp.

      Tighten the small nut at the base of the guitar cord jack with a small adjustable wrench or needle-nose pliers.

      Check the plug-in jack on the itself. Tighten it with the wrench or pliers if it is loose.
