How to Put Music Into a Turntable

People download a substantial amount of music today, either free or paid, to electronic devices such as iPods, cell phones and laptops, purchasing a majority of the rest in CD format. However, there are a growing number of people who prefer to play a vinyl music record on a turntable. Many consider the depth of sound to be better, despite the fact that the records can easily get scratched. Additionally, there are many people who have never actually operated a turntable to play a vinyl record so you need to take care.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift open the turntable cover using your hand. Remove the music record from the sleeve, holding the record by the outside edges, so as to avoid putting marks on the record.

    • 2

Place the hole in the center of the music record over the center spindle on the turntable. Let go of the record.

    • 3

Select the speed you need to play the record on the turntable. Look on the front disc of the record; it says 45 rpm or 33 rpm, so select the appropriate speed.

    • 4

Lift up the arm on the turntable gently using your fingers. Only lift it an inch or so. Move the arm toward the outside edge of the record. As you do so, the turntable begins to spin.

    • 5

Lower the arm carefully until the stylus on the underside of the arm touches the record. Let go of the arm gently and let the music play. The arm will usually automatically return to the rest position, once the record has played. If it doesn't, then carefully lift up the arm an inch or so and return the arm onto the armrest. The turntable stops spinning.
