How to Insert a 54 Blade into a Sawmill

Changing the blade on any large sawmill is a relatively easy two-person job. A 54-inch saw blade is used for cutting large logs into boards on large work sites. Blades like these can be used for quarter sawing and plane sawing. These are heavy blades and will require caution when setting them into position. The weight of the saw is enough to cut off a finger or cause serious bodily damage to the people performing this task. Once the blade is in position it can be tightened by one person.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your machinery and make sure that there is no power going to your sawmill.

    • 2

Pick up the saw blade. You may need another person to help you lift and position it. Position the saw blade into the sawmill so the mounting bolt goes through the center hole on the blade.

    • 3

Thread the nut on the mounting bolt and tighten it down using the wrench that fits the nut.

    • 4

Turn the blade and watch it as it turns. The blade must not wobble as it spins, it should spin like a finely tuned bicycle wheel. Tighten the bolt more if the blade wobbles.
