How to Clean a Plastic Watercolor Palette With Turpentine

Watercolors are a versatile painting medium and are often a a starting point for beginning artists trying their hand at painting for the first time. Plastic color palettes are commonly used to hold watercolors while the artist mixes and paints. Proper cleanup of the palette and other supplies will help them last longer and perform better the next time they are used. Turpentine can be used in small amounts to clean water color palettes without causing beading later on.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse the majority of the watercolor mixture from the palette with warm water and dab with liquid soap.

    • 2

Dry the watercolor palette with paper towels.

    • 3

Dampen the end of a cloth dish towel with turpentine and wipe the palette wells down to remove any lingering or remaining watercolors.

    • 4

Dry the palette again thoroughly with paper towels after cleaning with turpentine.
