How to Oil a Tuba

Proper maintenance is required to get the best sound out of an instrument. If you own a tuba you should oil your valves at least once or twice per month. The pistons used to play the instrument need oil to function properly. All you need is buy some brass valve oil from your music store and get started.

Instructions

    • 1

      Spin the casing at the top of the valve to unscrew it.

    • 2

      Remove the valve completely.

    • 3

      Put two or three drops of valve oil into the holes.

    • 4

      Place the piston valve back into its hole and turn it until it locks into place.

    • 5

      Tighten and secure the valve by turning it clockwise.

    • 6

      Repeat this with all piston valves.
