How to Remove Engraving From a Bowling Ball

Removing the engraving on a bowling ball is a task that should be left in the hands of a professional. Bowling pro shops have the equipment to not only fill the engraving, but also maintain the shape of the ball accurately. If a bowling ball is not perfectly round, it will not roll correctly, severely affecting your game. If you must do it yourself, invest in professional tools and epoxy to prevent permanent damage to your ball.

Things You'll Need

  • Professional bowling ball filling compound and accelerator (like Master Kwik-Patch)
  • Sanding glove
  • Ball spinner
  • Bowling ball polish

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze the filling compound into the engraved message. Use enough product to completely fill the writing and any beveled edges.

    • 2

Spray immediately with the accelerator. Cover the entire filled section and about one-half inch of the surrounding area.

    • 3

Allow it to dry completely. The results should be close to instantaneous. Test the surrounding area for any residue. The area should not be sticky.

    • 4

Pay for the service, pick up your ball and get back to your game.

    • 5

Insert the ball into the ball spinner and, using the sanding glove, sand the surface of the ball until the area filled is smooth. Apply ball polish to finish the procedure.
