Instructions

    • 1

Wash the pitcher in warm water and soap. Wipe the glass with paper towel and vinegar. Washing the pitcher will remove the natural oils that can smudge the glass and interfere with the paint adhering properly.

    • 2

Let the pitcher dry or wipe it down with a clean paper towel or cloth.

    • 3

Place a small amount of acrylic enamel paint designed for glassware on a foam plate. Depending on the look you want, use opaque paint that will give you a solid color that doesn̵7;t allow light to pass through it. If you want a more transparent look, thin the paint with a clear medium.

    • 4

Cover your work surface with newspaper.

    • 5

Choose a stencil design (purchase stencils at your local craft or hobby store). Place the stencil of the design you want to paint on the surface of the pitcher and hold it in place.

    • 6

Load your stencil paintbrush with paint. Dab excess paint on a paper towel.

    • 7

Place your brush on the edge of the stencil opening. Move your paintbrush in a circular, swirling motion against the stencil openings to fill in the design. This technique allows for the colors to be dark around the edge of the design and the center will be lighter. Another technique to use is to tap a loaded paintbrush inside the stencil opening, working your way out. This technique will give you an even tone.

    • 8

If recommended by the paint manufacturer, bake the pitcher to set the paint.

    • 9

Apply a coat of polyurethane varnish designed for glass paint over the painted image to protect your work.
