Things You'll Need
Instructions
Know the measurements of your building before you begin working with steel. Make the slab 4 inches wider and 6 inches longer than the building to prevent cracking when drilling bolts into the slab.
Make sure the concrete to which you're attaching the steel is at least 4 inches thick. If heavy vehicles or machinery will be inside the building, make the slab 6 inches thick.
Pour footings around the perimeter of the slab at the same time that you pour the slab. The footings are concrete filled holes re-enforced with rebar, a type of steel beam used in construction. The footings should be at least 12 inches deep and 16 inches wide.
Use nuts and bolts to adhere steel plates to each footing where you plan to erect a steel beam. Bolt or weld the beams to the plates to create the framework for your steel structure.
