Instructions
Draw a bird's eye view of the boat that shows the top of the deck, as if you were looking down at it. Make the shape of the boat. The front end of the boat comes to a point and is called the bow. The back end of the boat is called the stern and has a flat end. Label the boat accordingly on the drawing so that you do not confuse the two ends.
Label the right side of the boat starboard and the left side of the vessel the port.
Design the area on the boat where the mast will be, if you are making the layout for a sailboat. The mast is the tall pole that connects the sail.
Make a spot on the boat for the captain's control station. In a motor boat, for instance, the driver sits towards the front and usually has a glass window in front as a partition from the water. In a yacht, a control station is enclosed and sits atop on a higher level than the rest of the boat.
Add the motorized propellers in the back of the boat for a motor boat.
Draw sitting space on the deck of the boat. Boat passengers need an assigned area to sit. Depending on the type of boat you design, the sitting space could be at the bow of the boat or behind the captain. If you are making the layout for a large boat, construct an enclosed structure where passengers sit on the deck.
