Paint and Graphics
If your intent is to get your vessel quickly to the water, you might consider a straightforward single color or two-tone approach. Bright colors like fluorescent yellow and orange are easiest to see from a distance on water. Walking on the dark side? Jet black or midnight blue create a look of mysterious intrigue. Contrasting colors and patterns are also eye catching. With today's technology and online resources, custom graphics and decals are readily available and can quickly dress up simple design. (See the Resources section.)
Motif and Layout
Want more detail, but unsure about a color scheme? Show off your creativity and flaunt your team colors with your favorite sports or racing team's pattern. Develop a design based on another hobby such as playing guitar or fishing. Consider a graphics scheme relating to maritime lore such as Poseidon's trident, mermaids or an albatross. Remember to add bright colors and contrast to your design for visibility.
Do Not Neglect the Bottom
Consider incorporating a bright finish to the bottom of the boat. Real boat enthusiasts commonly paint the bottoms of their boats white to make them easier to find in an emergency. Similarly, a brightly-colored bottom will make an RC boat easier to locate in the event it flips over.
Finishing Touches
Hobby stores carry an array of striping material in every desired width and color. Stripes add elegance to a simple paint design and dress up a flashy race motif. Clear lacquer finish over stripes, decals and paint will add an unmatched glassy shine to your design.
