How to Make a Scarecrow Frame

Scarecrows can be seen on farms throughout the year to scare the crows away from the crops. Additionally they are used in many fall displays along with hay bales, pumpkins and fall flowers. Make your own scarecrow frame that stands up in the ground to support any style of scarecrow you want to make. With a minimal amount of time and basic supplies and building skills, you will have a sturdy frame to display in your yard or garden.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the 6-foot length of wood on the ground and place the 2-foot length perpendicular to it, near the top, to form a cross. The 6-foot length will be anchored into the ground to support the body and the 2-foot length will support the shoulders of the scarecrow.

    • 2

Hammer the 2-foot length of wood into the 6-foot length, using two long nails that fit through the thickness of the wood. Locate the center where the bars cross, and then hammer the nails side-by-side, making sure that they go through both layers of wood. Two nails will keep the short length from shifting.

    • 3

Dig a hole with a shovel, one foot deep, where you want the scarecrow to stand.

    • 4

Place the stand into the hole. Turn the cross bar to face in the direction you want the scarecrow to face and back-fill the hole with the dirt you dug out, packing it firmly to anchor the frame.
