Instructions
Set the LM7809 socket on a table. Locate pins number 1 and 3. Connect one wire from the first 0.01uF capacitor to pin number 1. Then, connect one wire from the second 0.01uF capacitor to pin number 3.
Solder the wire and pins together as follows: Place the clip-on heatsink on the capacitor wire connected tot he pin. Place the soldering iron on the pin and allow it to heat up. Hold a wire of solder on the pin until the solder melts. Cover the pin and the capacitor wire on the pin and then allow it to cool. Do this for pins 1 and 3.
Connect the other two wires of the ceramic capacitors together by twisting them together. This will be called splice "A." Connect a jumper wire from pin 2 of the socket to splice "A." Connect the negative terminal of the 470UF capacitor to splice "A," then connect the positive terminal of this capacitor to pin number 1.
Connect the two wires of the power cord to the two primary wires of the power transformer. Then, connect the two secondary wires of the transformer to the two AC terminals of the bridge rectifier. Check transformer documentation to make sure the correct 9-volt output wires are used because some transformers have multiple output voltages.
Connect the positive terminal of the bridge rectifier to pin number 1. Connect the negative terminal of the bridge rectifier to splice "A." An output wire can be placed at splice "A" and a second output wire can be placed at pin 3. The voltage across these two wires will represent the regulated 9-volt output. Next, plug the LM7809 into the LM7809 socket. If there are any unsoldered splices, solder them at this time. Once all splices have cooled, plug the LM7809 chip into the chip holder and plug in the power transformer.
