How to Charge a Walther CMP-1 Cylinder CO2

The Walther CMP-1 is a pistol used for field shooting competitions. Walther was one of the first companies to produce air-powered guns for the sport. It has continued to refine the process to create a gun that produces minimal kick when firing and can fire rapidly, allowing for automatic or semiautomatic firing. The introduction of CO2 as a propellant has greatly improved the speed and stability of the gun, but does require the shooter to be able to refill the CO2 canister at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Detach the cylinder by unscrewing it from your gun. Chill the cylinder in the freezer for approximately 20 minutes.

    • 2

Attach the adapter to the CO2 tank and then attach the other end to your cylinder. The adapter will fit over the vent on a 5-pound CO2 tank. The other end will screw into the CO2 cylinder of your gun.

    • 3

Open the valve on the CO2 tank slowly about a quarter of the way. Cylinders are filled by weight, and the empty and full weights are listed on the cylinder. For this weapon, the typical weights are 190 grams empty and a capacity of 40 grams. Weigh your cylinder before filling to confirm the empty weight, and weigh again after filling.

Detach the cylinder and store in a cool place until needed. Remember that the more you detach and attach the cylinder to the gun, the more wear and tear you place on the seals. For this reason, guns are frequently stored with the full cylinder attached. The C02 tank must be stored in a cool location until it is needed again. A 5-pound C02 tank translates to approximately 2,268 grams of C02. At 40 grams per fill, you should be able to get approximately 56 fills from one tank.
