Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn off all breakers in the main power panel, including the main breaker. Remove the breaker cover using a screwdriver. Install the dual breaker that will connect the inverter to the grid. Connect a black and red wire to terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the double breaker using a screwdriver. Connect the other end of these two wires to the two terminals of the L1 and L2 terminals on side one of the AC disconnect switch. Also run a white neutral wire and a ground wire from the neutral bar in the main power panel to the neutral and ground terminal of side one of the AC disconnect switch. These devices all use screw terminals that can be loosened or tightened with a screwdriver. Verify the AC disconnect switch wiring using manufacturer instructions. Different manufacturers set up their AC disconnect switches differently.
Connect a red, black, white and ground wire to the AC disconnect switch as per manufacturer instructions. These wires should connect to L1, L2, neutral and ground terminals on side two of the AC disconnect switch. At the power inverter, connect the black and red wires to the L1 and L2 terminals of the inverter. Next, connect the white neutral wire to the neutral terminal. Finally, connect the ground wire to the inverter equipment ground.
Locate the DC side of the inverter and connect the red DC wire from the solar panels to the positive DC terminal of the inverter. Next connect the black negative wire from the panels to the negative DC terminal of the inverter.
