How to Wire a Fasco 851

The Fasco 851 is a motor used in Ametek vaccuum cleaners. Over time, these motors can and will burn out. Due to the unit's popularity, many different companies provide replacement motors for easy and quick replacement. These motors only have two wires plus a ground wire. Fasco 851 motors are connected to power through the use of a power transformer and control relay. Wiring an entire vacuum requires wiring these additional units and not just the motor.

  • Fasco 851 motor
  • Control relay
  • Power transformer
  • Power cord
  • Jumper wires for the Fasco 851
  • Wire cutters
  • Wire strippers

Connect the black wire of the power cord to terminal B of the relay. Connect the black wire of the transformer to terminal A of the relay. Connect the yellow wire of the transformer to the C terminal of the relay. This can be done directly or through two different wires being joined through a splice.

Connect the blue wire from the transformer to terminal G of the relay. The motor has a blue, white, and green wire. Connect the blue wire to terminal F on the relay. Connect the green wire of the motor to the green wire of the power cord. Connect the white wires of the power cord, transformer, and motor together with a plastic twist cap. The wire cutters and strippers are used if you have to cut the wires and make splices.
