How to Troubleshoot a Terex Lift Platform Rotator

The rotating platform is one of the aspects of a Terex Lift which makes it such a a valuable tool in the construction industry. However, it is inevitable that such a level of technology will have its temperamental moments and -- assuming you have the expertise -- it is possible to troubleshoot problematic aspects such as the battery, hydraulic fluid or vital bolts.

Things You'll Need

  • Hydrometer
  • W/LOC-TITE 242
  • NORTRAN Automatic Transmission Fluid or DEXRON II
  • MULTI-PURPOSE GREASE EP-2

Instructions

    • 1

Use a hydrometer to measure the charge the battery has. (Note that a reading of 1,260 or more in all cells indicates a fully charged battery). If the battery is fully charged, then add water up to the level indicator. You should add enough water to cover the plates. This troubleshooting of the battery life and hydration levels should ensure the mechanisms have the power to perform the rotation procedures.

    • 2

Check the hydraulic oil on a daily basis, particularly if the rotating platform is not functioning correctly -- hydraulics are vital for this. The oil level must be between the "HIGH" and "LOW" marks in the sight glass of the hydraulic tank. If that is not the case, then you must fill the tank with either NORTRAN Automatic Transmission Fluid or DEXRON II.

    • 3

Check the rotation bearing bolts if there are any notable vibrations when you attempt to rotate the platform. These should be tightened using a W/LOC-TITE 242 if they are in any way loose, or replaced if damage is present.

    • 4

Lubricate the slew bearings in order to ensure the smooth operation of the rotation platform. It is recommended that you use MULTI-PURPOSE GREASE EP-2 for this. This should solve issues concerned with rough running of the platform.
