Place the origami square on a table with the colored side facing up. Fold the upper left corner into the middle. Smooth the crease. Unfold the corner. Fold the upper right corner into the center in the same fashion. Repeat this procedure with the bottom left and right corners, only folding up instead of down.
Turn the square over. Fold the top down to the bottom. Unfold the square. Fold the left side over to the right. Unfold the square. Squash the paper together along the folds inwards to form a square. Fold the bottom right corner flap up to the center. Smooth the crease. Fold the pointed end of the flap over to the other side and smooth the crease. Unfold the flap.
Open the two sides of the flap and flatten them down. Fold the upper left corner of the flap into the center. Unfold the flap. Tuck the pointed end of the flap beneath the crease just made on the flap. Continue tucking the end beneath the flap until it reaches the flap̵7;s center. Smooth the crease down. Repeat this entire procedure with the flap on the left side of the square, the right side and the flaps on the left and right side closest to you.
Fold the small point above the larger point closest to you beneath itself. Do this with the point on the other end of the flap farthest from you.
Rotate the paper 90 degrees so that the two ̶0;legs̶1; are now facing you. Fold the right side flap over to the left side. Smooth the crease. Fold the ̶0;leg̶1; that is nearest you up to the middle of the paper to form a horizontal shape. Smooth the crease. Fold the ̶0;leg̶1; back to its original position. Grip the point of the ̶0;leg̶1; and pinch it up. Continuing pinching the ̶0;leg̶1; so that it ends up being folded beneath itself and sticking out at a 90-degree angle. Flatten the ̶0;leg.̶1; Repeat this pinching procedure with the other three ̶0;legs̶1; on the paper.
Fold the left side of the paper over to the middle. Flatten the left side. Flatten the ̶0;leg̶1; that is on the flattened left side. Repeat this entire procedure with the right side of the paper. Repeat this procedure for the left and right flaps closest to you.
Rotate the paper as necessary so that the ̶0;engine̶1; end which has a split in the center is facing you. Fold the left bottom flap back into itself between the ̶0;wings̶1; above it. Repeat this entire procedure with the right bottom flap.
Open the fold that is between the two ̶0;wings̶1; and bend each side down. Repeat this with the two other folds that are up against the ̶0;wings.̶1;
Place a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the assembled X-Wing on the newspaper right side up. Shake the can of waterproof sealant for 10 seconds. Spray the X-Wing with the sealant from about four inches away. Move around the X-Wing as you spray until you have covered all of the surface area. Let the sealant dry for the amount of time specified on its instructions. Reapply another coat of sealant in the same manner as was just done.
Turn the X-Wing over. Shake the can of waterproof sealant for 10 seconds. Spray the untreated bottom of the X-Wing with the spray from about four inches away. Let the sealant dry for the amount of time specified in the instructions before applying another coat of sealant.
Spray the top of free-standing mailbox with household cleaner. Wipe the top of the mailbox with a soft cloth. Shake the can of waterproof sealant for 10 seconds. Spray the top of the mailbox with the spray from about four inches away. Let the sealant dry for the amount of time specified in the instructions before applying another coat of sealant.
Stand in front of the mailbox so that the lid faces you. Apply bonding glue to the bottom of the X-Wing. Hold the X-Wing with the back facing you. Place the X-Wing on the top of the mailbox so that the pointed end overlaps the front edge by an inch or two. Press the X-Wing against the mailbox. Hold the X-Wing down for two minutes so that the glue can adhere.
Place a plastic tarp over the mailbox to keep the X-Wing from being disturbed. Remove the tarp the next morning before the mail carrier shows up.
