How to Start a Lacing Cord

Cable lacing is a form of thin, flexible cord made of plastic designed to tie bundles of cable together when installing cable lines in homes and businesses. These cable ties help keep the cables together in a specific order, which is useful when creating cable layouts. Starting a cable lacing to tie two or more cables together is not difficult; it takes just a few minutes to complete. From the basic starting knot, you can lace the lacing into more complicated layouts or designs based on the needs of the cable lines.

Instructions

    • 1

Loop the lacing around the cable one time, leaving about a 1-inch tail on the left side. Cross the second end of the lacing over the first in an ̶0;X̶1; shape to hold the lacing in place.

    • 2

Pull the loose end of the lacing under the second loop to make two tight loops around the cable.

    • 3

Pull the ends tight. Repeat the looping process as many times as necessary to stabilize the lacing around the cables.

    • 4

Tie the ends of the cable into a square knot by looping the right string under the left, then by looping the left string under the right.

    • 5

Clip the ends of the lacing with scissors or a wire cutter.
