How to Clamp a Frame

If you need to repair a picture frame, you can do so easily with the right tools. Picture frames usually break at the corners since those are the only joints in the frame. It is important to retain the broken pieces to repair the frame adequately.

Things You'll Need

  • Picture frame
  • Two 16-inch clamps
  • Wood glue

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange the picture frame on a flat, hard surface. Ensure that all of the pieces are available and the corners of the frame match.

    • 2

Apply a moderate amount of wood glue to the inside of the corner joints that are broken. A moderate amount could be the size of a dime distributed on both sides of the joint.

    • 3

Arrange one of the 16-inch clamps across the middle of the frame so that each end of the clamp is near the center of two opposite and parallel frame sides. Gently tighten the clamp until a small amount of glue is squeezed out of the broken joint.

    • 4

Arrange the second 16-inch clamp perpendicular to the first clamp so that each end of the clamp is near the center of other two opposite and parallel frame sides. Gently tighten the clamp until a small amount of glue is squeezed out of the broken joint. Let the glue dry for 24 hours before removing the clamps. Use soap and water to clean off any glue residue.
