Starter Kit
A starter kit is a basic grouping of some of the most rudimentary items needed for flower arranging. This usually includes floral foam, or a "frog," which is placed in the bottom of the vase. The stems of the foam are inserted into the foam to help them stick up straight. Other items like flower preserves, floral tape and wire are also often included in a starter kit.
Expert Kit
If you've been arranging for a while and have most of the basic items, you may want a kit with some more advanced supples. Some of the more complicated kits include stem strippers, which tear off leaves and thorns, flower conditioner, water tubes to keep foam watered and precision pruners.
Books
Some kits come with a flower arranging book or guide. These books often have step by step instructions on how to create different arrangements and offer inspiration for those who are stuck on how to put together a simple bouquet. You can find these guides at floral shops or craft stores and you can add a flower arranging book to a kit you're putting together for a friend.
Gift Kit
Consider putting together a gift kit for a friend who loves arranging her own flowers. Gift kits will often have the same supplies as the kits you can buy in stores, with some pretty additions you add yourself. Place items like shears, floral foam and clay, flower preserves and a stem stripper into a decorative jar. Then tie a ribbon around the jar and write a note.
