How to Make My Stock Snowmobile Exaust Louder

Snowmobiling provides you and your family with a way to get outdoors and experience mother nature in the winter. These machines use a track and two skis to travel over the snow. Some sledders like their machines to be as loud as possible. This is done by opening up the flow of exhaust through the muffler. Inside the muffler are metal baffles that change the direction of the gases and reduce its sound.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the exhaust from the snowmobile by pulling off the retaining springs with a spring puller. These work by hooking on the end of the spring then pulling on the handle until the spring end comes off its mount.

    • 2

Place the muffler on a work bench and look down the end of the exhaust pipe to locate the resonator. The resonator is the horizontal metal sheet installed in the last section of the muffler.

    • 3

Push the 1/2-inch metal drill bit down the muffler outlet until it touches the metal baffle. Drill a 1/2-inch hole through this baffle.

    • 4

Reinstall the muffler on the snowmobile and check if the new sound is loud enough. If you want it to be louder, drill more holes through the interior baffles of the exhaust.
