How to Make a Bowfishing Sight

Fishing with a standard hunting bow is called bow fishing. To fish with a bow you require a reel. The reel is attached to the sight holes that are pre-drilled into the riser of your bow. When fishing, a sight is generally not used because shooting the arrow needs to be done quickly. You generally do not have time to align a sight pin with your target. However, you can easily add a sight point to your bow.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the arrowhead or wire barb that is on the end of the fishing arrow with the pliers. This will not be needed to sight the bow.

    • 2

Attach the fishing line from the reel to the end of the fishing arrow.

    • 3

Paint the front of the foam target a bright red or other color that you can see underwater with a spray can. Allow a couple of hours for the paint to dry.

    • 4

Place the foam target underwater at the edge of a pond or lake.

    • 5

Measure up 4 inches from the arrow rest of your fishing bow with the tape measure. Place a piece of masking tape on the riser of the bow.

    • 6

Aim the bow at the target by aligning the masking tape with the top of the target. Pull back the arrow to see if the shot hits the center of the target.

    • 7

Readjust the position of the masking tape and take additional shots until you can consistently hit the target using the sight on the bow.
