Things You'll Need
Instructions
Trace the outline of the sides of the quarter-pipe onto a sheet of ¾-inch plywood using the measurements given in your specific plans. Hammer a nail into the plywood and tie a string around it to use as a compass to draw the perfect curve of the ramp. Use a jigsaw to cut out the side. Trace the outline of the side onto another sheet of ¾-inch plywood or onto what is left from the first cutting if there is enough space. Cut the second side out of the plywood with a jigsaw.
Cut the 2x4̵7;s tp the size given in your plans. Construct the frame to the exact specifications given in your plan. Use the 16D nails to piece together the framework sections.
Attach the ¾-inch side pieces to the framework beginning with the top and working your way down to the rear corners.
Cut the 2x4̵7;s to the width of your quarter pipe to make joist supports according to your plans. Nail the joist supports to across the front of your ramp frame as instructed by your plans.
Soak the sheets of 3/8-inch plywood in cold water for a minimum of one hour to soften them and make them flexible enough to bend into shape. Soak as many sheets of plywood as your plans call for. The amount you will use will vary, depending on the size of your quarter-pipe.
Screw the soaked pieces of plywood onto the front-side of your quarter-pipe to begin construction of the ramp sections. Screw the sheets to the joist supports using just enough screws to hold the plywood in place. Work your way from the bottom up to the top of the ramp, leaving a 2-inch notch at the top to recess the steel coping into.
Screw the section of steel coping onto the top edge of the quarter-pipe. Use enough screws to firmly secure the coping to the ramp.
Screw a second layer of water soaked 3/8-inch plywood to the front of the ramp. Work your way from the steel coping down to the bottom edge of the ramp to offset the seams. Screw a sheet of Masonite on top of the plywood layers so that it is flush with itself. There should be no difference in height on the seams to make a smooth skating surface.
Finish the top deck of the quarter-pipe by nailing down a sheet of 3/8-inch plywood. Screw a sheet of Masonite on top of the plywood to complete the deck and finish the quarter-pipe.
