How to Ask a Person to Be a Sponsor for Your Club

One of the most difficult aspects of running a successful club is keeping it funded. You can rely on donations and dues from your members for a certain amount of income, but if you want to take any big trips or host a tournament or another complex activity, you will need to enlist the help of sponsors. Sponsors can be individual donors or businesses looking to build brand awareness. Anyone that has something to gain by sponsoring your club and its activities is a potential sponsor.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of the benefits of sponsoring your club. Some benefits of sponsorship might include earning community support or creating new business leads, or your club may have a good reputation that could be of value to a local business. Think about why you would want to sponsor your club and list those reasons.

    • 2

Create a second list of people or organizations that may be interested in your club. If you can find businesses that are involved in the same field as your club, asking for sponsorship will make more sense. For instance, if your club is devoted to toy collecting, a local comic book shop or antique toy store would make an excellent sponsor.

    • 3

Draft a letter that will eventually be sent to your potential sponsor. Outline the things your club does, why those things are positive for the community and how your potential sponsor will benefit from your actions. Mention how much money you are trying to raise and how much time you have to raise it.

    • 4

Find interesting ways for your club to highlight its sponsors. Most sponsors are looking for something in return when they donate to an organization ̵1; putting their name on your programs, uniforms or big projects is a good way to keep money coming in.

    • 5

Review your letter for errors or clarity problems and run it by your club to ensure everyone approves. Once the letter has passed muster, you can send it directly to your potential sponsor.

    • 6

Follow up on your letter with a quick phone call to ensure it arrived and keep your club on the mind of the recipient.
