How to Install a T-Rex 500 Governor

The T-Rex 500 is a radio control model helicopter manufactured by Align Corp. It is driven by a lithium-ion polymer battery. The voltage from the battery will fluctuate over the course of the flight, causing the helicopter's performance to fluctuate with it. Since the voltage is directly related to the rotor's head speed, adding a governor will solve the problem. The governor can be tricky to install, but if you built the T-Rex 500 yourself, it will not pose a problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Affix the six magnets that are packaged with the governor to the lower hole in the magnet holders with a small dot of 5-minute epoxy. Ensure that all of the magnets have the same pole facing up.

    • 2

Attach the magnet holders to the main gear with RTV adhesive. Place the magnet holders in every other hole on the gear so they are spaced evenly and position them so that the magnet faces up.

    • 3

Mount the sensor above the main gear at a 90-degree angle, with the sensor face pointing at the gear. Secure it in place with gyro mounting tape.

    • 4

Mount the main unit under the receiver tray and secure it in place with gyro mounting tape.

    • 5

Multiply the head speed you want by six, then enter that number into the governor. The T-Rex 500 runs well at 2,700 rpm, which is 16,200. Once the number is entered, the governor is ready.
