What Color to Paint a Miniature Farm Dollhouse?

Creating dollhouses is a classic hobby for those who enjoy working on a miniature scale. When choosing a color to paint a farm dollhouse, concentrate on the farm's style or theme. Perhaps your dollhouse represents a quaint country cottage with a few ducks and geese, or perhaps it calls to mind a grand working farm with crops, animals and a family.
  1. Traditional Red and White

    • This may be the best option for those painting a "true to form" classic farmhouse with miniature animals and crops. This dollhouse might include large double doors, loft and ladder as well as miniature white picket fencing. Spray-paint the majority of the farm a rustic red to save time. Use semi-gloss latex white to paint the roof and trim around windows and doors.

    Country Blue

    • For a "brunch in the countryside" feel, consider painting the home a gentle blue. Choose a light blue acrylic paint for the base, and select a darker acrylic blue for the trim. These colors may clash with autumn-style trees and would look best with summer or winter surroundings. Consider painting flower vines along a wall of the home to complete the theme.

    Rustic Countryside

    • The "Petit Hameau." was built for Marie-Antoinette in the 1780s on the grounds of Versailles. The mock farm in France still exists, and is a perfect example of a rustic, countryside farm without the dirt and wear of true country life. The walls are a mix of tan, brown and cream, and are part plaster, part brick. The roof is covered in sticks. To re-create the look, use a small paintbrush with a flat cut to create a mix of brick and plaster walls. Decorate the window trim with alternating cream and brown blocks.

    Victorian Farmhouse

    • Paint the farmhouse varying shades of white and cream for a Victorian-style home. The trim can be painted any color but would look best in cream, white, black or blue. You can use spray paint to save time on the bigger sections and a paintbrush for the trim. This style has a bland, nonaggressive scheme and can be paired with any seasonal surrounding or holiday decorations.
