Remove the Crank from the Bike
Locate the retaining bolt for the rear spindle of the mountain bike. Remove this bolt with the nut driver to access the crank.
Thread the end of the crank extractor into the threads for the retaining bolt. Tighten the crank extractor by hand until it stops.
Continue to tighten the crank extractor with the wrench until the crank separates from the spindle. Pull the crank off the spindle.
Repeat this process for the crank on the opposite side of the bike.
Extract Bearings from the Bracket and Spindle Cartridge
Place the bracket removal tool on the teeth that are on the locking side of the bracket cartridge. This is usually on the left side of the bracket. Place the wrench on the opposite side of the bracket cartridge.
Hold the bracket removal tool in place and then turn the wrench to loosen the bottom bracket. Turn the lock ring on the cartridge counterclockwise with the wrench. Place a cloth under the bike and pull off the lock ring and the bearing should fall out.
Insert the pin wrench into the bearing up on the cartridge and turn counterclockwise. Loosen until you can remove the bearing cup and the bearing.
Repeat this process with the spindle cartridge on the other side of the bike.
