Transducer Positioning
Considered the heart of the fishfinder, the transducer must be properly mounted to the transom. If there is one engine, mount it 18 inches from the boat's centerline on the side of the propeller's down stroke. Do not mount the transducer near any hull fittings or intakes that can cause interference, especially when the boat is moving. If there are two engines, mount the fishfinder at the centerline, between the engines. When mounting the transducer, make sure the front edge is 1/4 inch below the hull.
General Operating Tips
To the left of the Apelco 460 screen are three arrow buttons, all pointing towards the screen. When the top arrow is pressed, fishfinder mode is displayed, showing you the seabed and any fish echoes. The depth reading to the far right of the screen shows what is directly below the boat. Pressing the middle arrow displays bottom coverage, with both the seabed view and the transducer scope, showing the fishfinder's coverage in relation to the boat. The bottom arrow key gives you navigational information, including depth, boat speed, water temperature and which alarms are set.
Setting Alarms for Fish and Depth
To set depth and fish alarms, press the "Alarm" key below the screen. Then press "PWR" to enable the alarm buzzer. To the left of the screen, press the appropriate arrow pointing to the different alarms to turn them on or off. To increase, or decrease, the depth settings, press the "Alarm" key again and press the top arrow to increase, or the middle arrow to decrease, the depth alarm setting.
Set the Zoom Screen
To set the zoom screen, press the "Zoom" button under the screen. On the arrow keys, press the top arrow to switch from full to split display, showing both zoom and regular view. When the middle arrow is pressed, the screen shows the full zoom display and the bottom arrow allows you to select auto or manual zoom.
