How to Convert 6 Volt to 12 Volt on a Century Boat

The company, Century Boats, has been producing a range of boats suitable for both internal waterways and the sea for decades. The boats can operate on 6 or 12 volts. If you have a 6-volt battery and need 12 volts, the best thing to do is to wire a second 6-volt battery in series. Wiring in series adds the voltage produced from the first battery to the voltage from the second battery, so two 6-volt batteries wired in series produce 12 volts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the battery compartment on the Century boat. The battery compartments are large enough for two or three batteries.

    • 2

Disconnect the black battery cable from the existing battery using a wrench. The black cable is attached to the negative battery pole; removing it isolates power, while you convert from 6 to 12 volts.

    • 3

Place the second 6-volt battery next to the existing battery. Attach a new battery cable to the positive battery pole on the second battery using a wrench. The positive pole is labeled "+." Attach the opposite end of the cable to the negative battery pole labeled "-" on the existing battery. This is the battery pole you just disconnected the black cable from.

    • 4

Connect the black battery cable you previously disconnected from the existing battery to the negative pole on the second battery. The batteries are now wired in series and produce 12 volts. Close the battery compartment door.
