Things You'll Need
Instructions
Turn off all power that feeds into the part of your property where the system is located. This will prevent you from accidentally electrocuting yourself. Open your tank and remove the brine valve from its chamber. The brine valve will look like a wrench with a small metal tube sticking out of one side. Remove the float valve, which should be beneath the brine valve. The float valve looks like a long, curved metal car jack.
Remove all of the wet salt and dirty water from inside of the tank using a scoop or a bucket. Any sort of container that can fit into the tank will work nicely. Throw this wet salt and dirty water out. If there is any dry salt left it can be used for later.
Wipe off the brine and float valves carefully so you don't damage any of their parts. Set those aside once more. Wash out the inside of the tank with a scrub brush and then with a wash cloth. Simple antibacterial soap should work nicely.
Replace the float and brine valves and add salt back to the tank. Add about half a foot of water and put the cover back onto the tank system. Turn your power back on and run the tank as usual. Your floater filler should be clean and your softening system operational again.
