How to Create a Bubble Bar Top

When you want to build a bar for your home you can construct the cabinet from wood. The top of a bar is typically a wood or laminate cover. However, if you want a bubble top design for your bar top you can use a bubble pattern wallpaper. You will then need to seal the wallpaper with a polyurethane coating for a hard bar top surface.

Things You'll Need

Bubble pattern wallpaper
Tape measure
Scissors
Spray adhesive
Roller
Polyurethane
Paint brush
220-grit sandpaper
Cloth

Instructions

  Measure the dimensions of the bar top with the tape measure. Transfer the measurements to a rolled out length of the bubble pattern wallpaper. Include the sides of the bar top.

  Cut the wallpaper to the dimensions of the bar top with the scissors. Apply the spray adhesive onto the surface of the bar top.

  Lay the wallpaper onto the surface of the bar top. Smooth out the wallpaper over the adhesive and fold it over the sides. Smooth the surface of the bar top with a roller or use your hand.

  Apply one coat of polyurethane to the surface of the wallpaper using the paint brush. Allow this coat to dry for at least four hours. Lightly sand the polyurethane with the 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe the sanding residue with the cloth.

  Apply another coat of polyurethane to the bar top. Allow the polyurethane to dry and then sand with the sandpaper. Apply a third and final coat of polyurethane to the bar top.
