Things You'll Need
Instructions
Remove the four body clips from the top of the vehicle. Lift the body from the chassis and set it to the side.
Disconnect the battery, if applicable.
Disconnect the rear passenger side turnbuckle connected to the ball end, mounted to the hub carrier, using a small pair of pliers. Be careful not to damage the plastic turnbuckle end with the pair of pliers.
Tilt the rear passenger side wheel to the downward position. This will allow you to remove the "dog bone" end of the drive axle from the differential yoke.
Examine the inside portion of the differential yoke and locate the small hex head screw.
Push the vehicle down to "bottom-out" the rear driver's side suspension. Wrap a long piece of string or masking tape around the rear driver's side A-arm and rear shock tower. This will force the driver's side axle further into the differential yoke, preventing the hex head nut from moving while replacing the thrust bearing components.
Remove the hex head screw from the passenger side differential yoke. Tilt the passenger side of the vehicle down while removing the screw, as doing so will ensure the trust bearing components come out with the screw.
Slide the old thrust bearing components off the hex head bolt. Install one of the new washers supplied with the rebuild kit onto the bolt, followed by the ball bearing race. With the head of the bolt pointed downward, install each of the greased ball bearings into the holed portions of the race.
Place the remaining washer over the top of the race. Carefully insert and screw in the bolt into the passenger side differential yoke. Remember to keep the bolt head face down to avoid losing the small ball bearings.
Turn the hex head wrench 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise, after completely tightening the bolt.
Remove the tape or string from the vehicle and insert the drive axle back into the differential yoke. Reconnect the turnbuckle to finish the installation process.
